SA-TE ZENKAI NO TSUZUKI DESU. (Okay. It is the continuance of the story.)
I had a lot of comment from the foreign countries when I wrote it
about Japanese common sense. DOUMO ARIGATOU!!
Overseas people seem to want to know more about a daily thing of Japan.
SOKODE!! (So) I have begun with such a photograph this time.
Where of my home is this button attached?
...Japanese doesn't need to think.
NIHONJIN NO MINASAN HA KANGAENAKUTEMO WAKARIMASUNE.
And the overseas people please look at the illustration on the button.
BOTAN NO UENO IRASUTO WO MITE KUDASAI.
Yep.(SOUDESU) It is a picture of OSHIRI (hips).
This is a button in the rest room of my home.
Things what you can do with this button is...
1. Front and Rear Washing. (We call it Washlet in Japan.)
2. Heated Seat with Temperature Control.
TOTTEMO ATATAKAI DESU.(It's warm and nice in the winter.)
3. Auto Flush Activated by Sensors or the Simple Touch of a Button.
4. Automatic Open and Close Lid Activated by Sensors, and so on.
SHIKAMO!! (Moreover), because 3 and 4 are set automatically, hands-free flushing system and a sensor-activated lid that automatically lifts as you approach the toilet and lowers as you walk away. SUBARASHII It's awesome!!
SARANI!! (Furthermore), there is no flash tank in the restroom. It is installed inside of wall.BIKKURI DESUNE.(Surprise!!)
CHOTTO MATTE KUDASAI!!
(Wow!! Wait a minutes.)
"I don't understand. What is it?"
"NANIGA NANDAKA WAKARIMASEN."
The person who does not know a Japanese restroom may think so.
Then I explain it with the photograph of the restroom article maker.
MAZUHA (First of all), front and Rear Washing.
A nozzle comes out like this, and warm water comes out of there.
This is a function that is installed to the rest room at most homes in Japan.
This is installed in most public places, too. SU-PA- MA-KETTO (The supermarket), BYOUIN (the hospital), and HOTERU (the hotel),NADONADO (etc).
The recent Japanese seems to think it is not clean enough only by having wiped bottom part with toilet paper.OSHIRI WO FUKU DAKEDEHA KIMOCHI GA WARUI DESU.
The automatic open and close lid is like this.→→→→→→→
I will be surprised without knowing this function if I stand in front of a restroom.
I say
"DAREDA!! (Who is it)?"
and may look back.
When you have seat heater in your restroom, if you leave the lid open, thermal efficiency deteriorates, so that this automatic Open and Close lid saves the energy.(SHOU ENE DESU.)
(Maybe, we should not use an electric power so much for the rest room from the beginning?! HA-HA-HA!!)
SOU SOU KONNA MONO MO ARIMASUYO.
(We also have things like this, too.)
The most of the Japanese woman, it seems not to want to be heard a sound in a public restroom.
HOTONDO NO NIHONJIN JOSEI HA TOIRE DE OTO WO KIKARERU NOHA HAZUKASHII NODE IYA DESU.
If you push this button you will hear a sound that water flows.
OMIZU GA MOTTAI NAI NODE, OTO DAKE DESU.
(Because you must not waste water, the water does not flow only by a sound.)
For a KEPPEKI SHOU NO JOSEI (cleanly woman) who do not want to touch the button by hand, there is a sensor and you will hear the sound by shading the black place with a hand.
This device is called "OTOHIME (Princess sound)".
And I heard that it's been stored up in Museum of Modern Art MOMA of New York.
WARATTEHA IKEMASEN, HONTOU NANDESU. Don't laugh, it is true.
DOUDESU (See)? BOTAN DARAKE (Many many buttons).
I got a comment from a person who have the plan of the trip in Japan.
I am anxious whether the person can manage a Japanese restroom. SHINPAI DESU.
DEMO DAIJOUBU!! (But it's gonna be all right!)

Nice blog.
I am studying Japanese now. Like to develp communication with you.
よかったら 友達に なりたいです。
Dear Miko,
I came across your blog by chance while i was emailing my girlfriend in Japan, and I'm so glad i did.
It made me feel so homesick for the things i used to love while living in Japan, teaching English.
Thank you!
Sarah
Honestly, it's hard to imagine a toilet like that (especially with a washlet) :) The best part of the OTOHIME is the name, ahhaha... I love it :D
In that first picture... the 3rd button says "ビデ" (or maybe "ピデ".. it's hard to tell), right? I don't understand that part. The picture makes me think of a person being pushed into the air by a big water fountain ( like this http://www.germanspeakingclubsofarizona.org/images/Fountain2.jpg ) :)
haha, great photos!
Hello Miko!! I was researching on Japan and came across your blog! It's so interesting!!! And was impressed by the past 2 posts that you had! The buttons in your place are really cool!!! I'll be visiting Japan in December:)

I miss those toilets ;_; Although, I have to admit, they were pretty intimidating the first few weeks...I had to have a few drinks in me before I was brave enough to use ALL of the buttons.
