In America we definitely have fireworks you can set off on your own too, but usually don't call the ones you hold in your hand fireworks. Hand-held fireworks are usually called sparklers. But you can buy larger ones as well, even some that shoot up in the air but they are pricier.
Very good work and very creative and is exellent because it how more culture conservative and naturally.

Hello Miko,
nice post. My mind flashed back to my childhood. We still set off fireworks on New Year's Eve. Or on state holidays. At home we prefer sparklers (thank you, Tiffany, for your prompt). But I can't boast that they are various. They are always the same.

We have also a big national holiday in August, when there is fireworks all over the country. The biggest one is in the capital city, Budapest and takes about 30 minutes.
As I know we can buy firework for home use only for 31st of December.
Sparklers are used only at Christmas time here. But I like the handy collections what you can buy in Japan :)
